Things to consider are personal care products, cleaning products, cookware, food, water, technology and even the clothes you wear. Although the task of unwinding toxicity is daunting and at times draining, over time the rewards start to add up as you realize your health is improving.
Over the last several years I have devoted time and energy to researching how to unwind this process.
Things to take into account are:
Mouth Health – do you have any amalgam fillings or past root canals? What is in the mouth can dramatically impact your health in ways you can never imagine. Having mercury so close to your brain is closely linked to Alzheimer’s and dementia. Root canals can be undetected areas of infection which can slowly deteriorate your health.
Personal Health – what type of deodorant, lotion, makeup, perfume, cologne, toothpaste, mouthwash, menstrual products can contain ingredients with toxins. These toxins can “feed” your skin all day long and can have more impact than the food you consume. Many contain lead or other heavy metals, endocrine (hormone) disruptors or other unwanted substances and researching their ingredients if well worth your time.
Clothes – many of the clothes we wear are made of polyester, rayon, nylon, acrylics, or other ingredients which may be affecting us on a deeper level. Synthetic clothes are made of crude oil – think crude oil in your car and gasoline which may be one-way chemicals are entering your body. Clothes made of cotton, wool, silk and hemp are an easy way to lower chemical exposure, increase breathability and lower exposure to petroleum-based products. In addition, do you dry clean your clothes? What type of detergent do you use? Natural clean and green cleaner are more important than ever.

Home Health – from air fresheners/plug-ins to candles, furniture glues, mattresses, and cleaning products your home may not be the safe place you think it is. Many of these products contain toxic chemicals that are affecting your skin, lungs, and causing your liver to be on constant detox mode. Look for products made with essential oils and consider green cleaning products or using vinegar, baking soda or other natural products for cleaning.
Air purifiers and clean water are also essential to having a healthy home. Many great products exist and you can find some on ‘Susan’s Favorites.”

Kitchen Health – cookware may be a huge issue for some who have older pots and pans and/or Teflon or non-stick cookware which is quite toxic for the system. Cast-iron pans can increase iron in foods which can increase inflammation. Even many types of dishes contain lead and when scratched this can leach in your food. Safer products are available such as lead-free dishes, ceramic or porcelain pans to cook with. The way that you cook is also important. Even stir-frying your vegetables with olive oil can produce acrolein as it becomes damaged at high temperature. How you cook your food and the condiments you use are very important to keeping inflammation at bay.
Technology Health – is your internet on 24/7? Exposure to EMF’s is challenging for a system to be exposed to continually. Do you live near power lines? Do you have your cell with you all the time (even when you are sleeping?). Turning off the Wi-Fi at night and putting your cell phone in another room can be the first step towards lowering EMF pollution.
