New Healthy Finds for 2022
One of the most common things I hear in my office (or zoom office) is “have you found anything new that will help my health and diet?” With so many products on the market it is challenging to sort through what is healthy and not gimmicky. Here are a few of my fun finds:
Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate is one of my favorite foods and I am typically disappointed when I try new brands…until I found La’mourette Chocolate. You will be spoiled forever after you try it. Owner Andre is in San Francisco and ships all over the country. Their 91% bar is exquisite and although you may think it is too bitter, think again. I have even converted some of my long-term milk chocolate clients to this bar. You can order 6 bars at a time. Even 1 square a day is satisfying and decadent. I like it paired with a good organic nut butter.
Tigernuts and Tigernut Flour
Over the last year I’ve discovered Tigernuts and Tigernut flour. Tigernuts are not really nuts but more a chewy tuber vegetable (in the family of Jerusalem artichokes or yams). They are hard on the outside and have a chew on the inside so a nice mouthfeel. They are wonderful for those with nut allergies, are gluten-free and make a great overall snack. Even 2-3 is quite satisfying. They are even a great addition to homemade healthy nut mix. You can put them on a salad or other vegetable or entrée. I like Tigernut flour (see recipe in this listserv) since it is gluten-free but also a stand-alone flour to use in recipes rather than having to mix multiple flours to create what regular flour does.
Tigernuts are high in fiber, have antibacterial and prebiotic properties and are high in antioxidants. They do have 9 grams of carbs per ounce so keeping your quantity limited is still important.
Below are my favorite brands for each:

Eco-Dent:
How many times do you contemplate what are the most important things in your carry-on quart size bag for liquids when you fly? Enter Eco-Dent. It is a “toothpowder” that contains minerals for healthy teeth, is fluoride-free, and has an awesome, clean fresh taste. I like it so much I use it in combination with my Uncle Harry’s cinnamon paste but travel exclusively with this one. I also really like their clean mint mouthwash.
Gluten free low carb wraps
When you think of low carb you generally think “ugh” but over the last year low carb wraps have made a major improvement. They are generally made of egg whites, cheese, almond flour, coconut flour or combinations of the above. Below are a few of my favorites.
Cauliflower wraps: Outer Aisle
Almond/Coconut wrap: Unbun Foods
Sauna Blanket: Higerdose
Since we live in a toxic world, sweating daily is essential. If you don’t exercise or move much, you may not be sweating sufficiently. Having an infrared sauna helps with detoxifying the body but can be cumbersome in terms of space. I was on the hunt for something smaller and portable and came across Higherdose. They have a great infrared blanket which is like a sleeping bag, and they sell a towel insert so you can sweat on the towel and wash it between treatments. The goal is to sweat 15 minutes a day and then take a shower right afterward. If you don’t shower right away the toxins on your skin get reabsorbed. This is a great enhancement in your health toolkit for detoxification of the body.
So, there you have it – ways to sweat, brush your teeth, wrap your food, chew on a treat and finish with some decadent dark chocolate. Some of my new favorite finds to finish off 2022!

Can you comment on chocolate and the new news of heavy metals found in the chocolate? Are the brands you recommend low in heavy metal? Thanks! Greg
