Is there one habit you can do every day which can dramatically impact the health of your entire body? The answer is yes, and it may not be what you think it is. We know exercise, diet, sleep, etc. all positively impactful to our health. However, you could be eating an organic clean diet, exercising every day, and still not feeling your best.
Many health professionals are now referring to the mouth as the gateway to good or ill health as 80% of disease symptoms have been tied back to problems in the mouth.
You may go to the dentist regularly, brush, floss, etc. and still have issues. How can this be?
Bacteria can be anywhere in your mouth and gums and go undetected for years and may not cause any type of pain. However, swallowing bacteria that are not “friendly” can lead to a host of issues. If you have less than friendly bacteria continually seeping into your bloodstream it can go anywhere throughout the body and cause issues – blood vessels, brain, joints, muscles, nerves, etc. Helping decrease bacterial overgrowth in your mouth can help the entire immune system and possibly decrease heart disease, arthritis and even Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s.
One very simple habit that can help is oil pulling.
Simply put, oil pulling is putting 1-2 teaspoons of organic virgin coconut oil in your mouth each morning and swishing around for 10-20 minutes and then spitting it out. Since coconut oil is antibacterial it is good at attracting and binding to bacteria, viruses, fungi, and mucus and pulling it out of your mouth. Just make sure to spit out in the garbage as it can clog your sink. If 10 minutes is too much start with 3 minutes and build up.
Other possible benefits of oil pulling include whiter teeth, better breath, fewer cavities, and tighter gum pockets. However, oil pulling does not replace regular brushing and flossing.
A habit that can be done while getting ready for your day that requires so little time, can lower disease and possibly improve your health – that’s one inexpensive natural remedy I’m signed up for!
