Finding your balance with COVID Anxiety
How do we use our values to navigate our anxiety in the midst of the crisis? If our anxiety dial is stuck on high it can render us powerless to do what we need to do to take care of ourselves, and our clients…so HOW do we move the dial?
That’s where values come in. Values are the WHY of our goals and deciding that something else is more important than fear.
Audre Lorde states: “when I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”
In some situations we can’t turn down the volume on our fear or struggle but we can turn up the value on our purpose or mission to help re-center ourselves.
So where do we start? Instead of striving for perfection maybe try one imperfect little minute step to get closer to where you want to go. If we wait for the “right or perfect time” it may not ever happen.
Make a list about what you care about most, and how can you live that out in the next 24 hours or the next week. It could be as easy as “I want to get 7 hours of sleep each night, or I want to check in with a friend at least once a day.” It may not be the time to undertake huge endeavors but rather focus on self-care and build on that.
Refocusing on our values is about making room in our hearts for something we really care about so the anxiety does not take up all the space, one day at a time. And if you focus on your values it will be much easier to help your clients do the same since we are all in this together!
