We want Sweeter – but what foods are Sweet for the Body and Health?
Last week I wrote about my trip to Beef country and something a Farmer said got me thinking: cows prefer eating corn over grass.
Well of course they do!
Most people prefer sweet over sour, chocolate over vegetables and bread over salad. Even newborn babies want sugar water over sour. So why would cows be any different?
I grew up as the family baker. My mother once called me a lousy dietitian since I did not eat all that many vegetables and really preferred the taste of sweet. Jeffrey had a great influence over me and introduced a multitude of various vegetables to our home and now I am a confirmed vegetable lover.
How did I get there? You may have heard me talk about the no-thank you serving of how to acclimate yourself to foods you don’t care for and I used this technique. The result? After eating vegetables for a while you really do miss them. When I?ve been on trips and can’t eat enough vegetables due to logistics I don’t feel as energetic, and clean in my system. My body craves them to get back into balance.
Vegetables give you fiber, amazing nutrients, phytochemicals (important nutrients you can?t get in a vitamin pill) that prevent heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and inflammation in general.
You may be saying yes, yes, yes – Â I’ve heard all this before but have you considered how eating several servings of vegetables per day can dramatically change the course of your future? Research does not just touch on this but shows dramatic changes in the body with nutrients and fiber from veggies – so consider adding more to your day and get your sweet from natural sources.
You may want the sweet like the corn-fed cows but it’s the grass-fed cows who are the healthiest and happiest on the farm.

I've been loving your writing style Susan! Thank you for sharing and this is such a relatable post; the acclimation idea is so necessary – just like in anything else you must train your body.
