Vacation Eats?
What do I take on vacation to help with staying on track?
This is one question I frequently get asked by clients in anticipation of an upcoming trip.
There are limits to what you can bring due to lack of refrigeration but there are some things you can take with you AND some ways you can make it easier once you get to your destination.
You are packing your clothes so why not pack your snacks as well?
Here are a few ideas:
- Nuts/seeds – either you can bring a few big bags of nuts you like or little bags. I mix raw cashews, sliced almonds, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds for my trips. I also buy the little Trader Joe’s 1-ounce snack dry roasted almonds to keep with me wherever I am.
You never know when you are going to need a snack to tie you over- better to be prepared than over hungry, which leads to overeating.
- Packets of nut butter – peanut, almond, and cashew are all available and come in snack size servings perfect for travel.
- Skinny Crisps and Raw Wheat FreeCrusts – faux “crackers” made of almonds, seeds and other healthy real things that give you the crunch and are completely portable.? I think Skinny Crisps taste better than normal crackers and my favorite flavors are Plain Jane and White Sesame.
- Bars –Â these are ones I don?t like people to eat regularly but there are a few on my approved list ? see this past blog. The new bar I found is called Rise and the protein ones are good and have minimal ingredients.
- On the Plane – for the first few hours you are gone bringing a few pieces of fruit, some carrots, a container of tuna or egg salad (and a little ice to keep with it), and some sliced cheese all works well.
Once you get to your destination make sure you have the hotel put a small refrigerator in your room. Purchasing small Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, cheese, fruit, etc. are all handy for an easy breakfast, snack, etc. saving time and money with eating out leaving more time for scenery and the beauty of your trip.
Lifestyle nutrition requires taking some of your turf with you-even when you are on a trip so when you return your brain and your body will be thankful for the trip…and you won’t feel like you are starting again on healthy clean eating.

Great post. I just booked one of the really nice vacation rentals in madeira beach for my family vacation and I was thinking about what food to bring. I usually gain a little bit of weight on vacation and I don't want to do that again. I will keep these tips in mind when I am packing. Thanks so much for sharing!
