Laurie's Story
I am a 51 year old single woman who is striving to spend the second half of life living an active healthy lifestyle. I have two “emerging adult” children and a 7 month old puppy, all of which keep me active. My professional life is very busy, I am Chief Operations Officer for a non-profit children’s mental health agency in Sacramento. My job is busy, my days can be long, however I am fortunate to live close to work and have some flexibility in my schedule.
I enjoy riding my bike, skiing, hiking, reading, and currently spend a lot of time puppy training. I am fortunate to have very good long term friends and am close to family. The match of “A Recipe for Life” and “Recipe for Friendship” is a natural one for me. I have struggled all my life with weight challenges and have tried all the diets, programs, fads, etc.
My current goal is active lifestyle combined with healthy eating to do everything I can to age happily. My current challenge is to break old habits and avoid pitfalls. So far I have enjoyed cooking many of the recipes in “A Recipe for Life”, have started a weekly produce delivery at my office, am committed to walking my puppy 4 miles a day, and have re-stocked my pantry and refrigerator with Susan’s grocery list. My most recent pitfall was the adorable Girl Scouts who knocked on my door. Having lived in an apartment the last four years, and recently moved to a neighborhood, I couldn’t resist supporting the local kids. After sharing one whole box with my puppy (not good for either of us) I quickly gave the other four boxes to my son and his roommates. I look forward to sharing and supporting my goals and challenges with my group of friends and making new friends on this journey.
