Carbs Worth Having

As many of you are aware, my philosophy around starchy carbs is avoiding them as much as possible.  A few months back, Huckleberry Café in Santa Monica opened up on Wilshire.  They have had amazing reviews on their baked products.  I’ve conveniently avoided them but have to confess I had to go there at least once to see what the hype was about.

You would not suspect we are still in a recession stepping into this café.  There was a long line waiting to place their orders and not many tables available.  More pastries, homemade breads, scones, cookies and cakes filled their glass case than I can remember in a long time.

The menu of breakfast items is eclectic with creative variations on egg dishes.  I had poached eggs on top of greens and figs on top of a brioche.  Jeffrey had what they call green eggs and ham:   eggs on top of an English muffin with prosciutto and pesto.  Both were tasty and filling.  I avoided all but a taste of the brioche which was good but not worth the calories.  We did order a slice of their banana bread which came with cream cheese – a few bites of that was well worth having.

A very pricey breakfast for what it was but the experience is worth visit.  If you want to splurge I do recommend going here at least once.  However, go with a moderate appetite so you’re not tempted to break your health bank.
